# Permissions & Privacy

> Why BirdTab requests specific browser permissions and how your data is handled.

BirdTab requests a small set of permissions to power extension features.

## Permissions

    Used to save your local preferences: region, audio settings, quick access settings, and timer/clock configuration.

  <Accordion title="search">
    Lets BirdTab route searches using your selected search engine, including your browser default option.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="topSites (optional)">
    Used only for the Top Sites section in Quick Access. If you do not grant it, Top Sites stays hidden.
  </Accordion>

## Network connections you may see

* `api.birdtab.app` for daily bird data and license verification.
* `search.macaulaylibrary.org` / `macaulaylibrary.org` for source media references.
* Sentry for anonymous crash diagnostics.

## What BirdTab does not do

* Does not read your full browsing history.
* Does not log or sell your search queries.
* Does not sell personal data to third parties.

## Manage permissions

You can review or revoke permissions any time from your browser's extension settings page.
